Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has addressed the decision to leave Enzo Fernandez out of the matchday squad.
The midfielder missed Thursday's Carabao Cup fixture, which ended in a 2-0 victory for Chelsea against Luton Town.
Alonso clarified that the omission had nothing to do with recent media reports linking the player with a potential move to Manchester City.
Meanwhile, debutant Welbeck played a key role in securing the win for Chelsea while Fernandez watched from the sidelines.
