Chelsea have reached an agreement with Atalanta regarding a deal worth up to £40m for defender Honest Ahanor.
The 18-year-old Italian has agreed personal terms and has permission to complete his medical examination in London.
Earlier in the transfer window, Atalanta had rejected a £29m bid from Brighton for the young left-back.
It remains uncertain whether Ahanor will immediately feature in manager Xabi Alonso's squad or be sent out on loan to another Premier League club.
