Palace attempt to hijack Villa move for Ordonez

Crystal Palace are attempting to hijack Aston Villa's move for Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez, who has been a long-term target for the Selhurst Park club.

Villa turned their attention to the Ecuador international after failing to agree a fee with Southampton for Taylor Harwood-Bellis, having previously sold Ezri Konsa to Arsenal.

Club Brugge currently value the 22-year-old at £40m, while Palace have accelerated their search for a centre-back following an injury to Chadi Riad against Everton.

Ordonez played 46 games for the Belgian side last season and represented Ecuador at the World Cup earlier this summer, missing only one match before elimination.
