Chelsea in contact over move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Martinez

Chelsea have initiated contact with the representatives of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez regarding a potential transfer. The 33-year-old Argentina international is deemed available following Villa's acquisition of Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Parma for approximately £30m earlier this month.

A potential deal would further strengthen the active business relationship between Chelsea and Villa, who have previously completed notable transfers involving players such as Morgan Rogers, Alejandro Garnacho, and Ian Maatsen. Meanwhile, striker Nicolas Jackson could also be set for a move to Villa.

Earlier in the transfer window, Juventus attempted to secure Martinez, but that deal collapsed due to concerns regarding a finger injury, leading the Italian club to sign Tottenham's Guglielmo Vicario on loan instead.

The interest in Martinez arises amid defensive concerns surrounding Chelsea's current first-choice goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, following unconvincing performances. Manager Xavi Alonso addressed the situation in a press conference and noted that back-up goalkeeper Mike Penders could be given an opportunity to start.
