Former Arsenal director of football Edu will serve as a senior advisor to the new owners of League Two club Northampton Town. The Brazilian midfielder left his role at Nottingham Forest in September and recently joined the board at Bulgarian club Levski Sofia.
A Brazilian consortium featuring former AC Milan and Chelsea forward Alexandre Pato completed a takeover of Northampton, who currently sit 23rd in League Two, last month. Co-chairman Joao Xavier stated that Edu would assist the club with sporting questions on an ad hoc basis.
Xavier explained that he and Edu became friends during their time connected to Nottingham Forest. Edu now acts as an advisor for Levski Sofia and Northampton, stepping in whenever the leadership needs guidance.
Edu spent six years at Arsenal, becoming their first sporting director in 2022 after a successful playing career with the Gunners. During his executive tenure, he brought in manager Mikel Arteta and helped oversee the squad recruitment.
