Arsenal are concerned that Bukayo Saka could miss up to eight weeks after suffering a quadriceps injury during Wednesday's Champions League 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich. The 25-year-old was forced off early in the game because he was struggling to walk without pain.
Club medics are estimating a minimum six-week absence, though diagnosing the exact extent has been difficult due to fluid around the affected muscle. Saka is scheduled to undergo an MRI scan to provide a definitive assessment for head coach Mikel Arteta.
The expected layoff means Saka will miss crucial Premier League fixtures as well as England's upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain. This latest muscle issue adds to a series of fitness struggles over the past year, which included Achilles, hip, and hamstring problems.
Arteta now faces a selection challenge in the frontline, with fellow winger Christos Tzolis also currently injured. Alternative options on the flanks include Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze, and 16-year-old academy talent Max Dowman.
