Phil Foden shines with Champions League hat-trick

Phil Foden became only the third Englishman to score a hat-trick and provide an assist in a Champions League match, following in the footsteps of Wayne Rooney and Raheem Sterling. His stellar performance helped Manchester City secure a 5-1 victory over AEK Athens at the Etihad Stadium.

After two disappointing seasons and missing out on England's World Cup squad, the 26-year-old is finding a fresh start under new manager Enzo Maresca. Following a goal against Ipswich, this brilliant hat-trick confirms his return to top form.

With Erling Haaland sidelined due to a foot injury, manager Maresca utilized Foden in the false nine role, a tactical shift that paid off significantly. Former City defender Joleon Lescott noted that Foden has proven he can effectively lead the line when Haaland is unavailable.

Foden expressed his delight with the role and his ongoing progress toward peak performance. Despite struggles in recent seasons and a red card earlier this term, he signed a new four-year deal in July and aims to build on this momentum.
