Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has completed a season-long loan move to Como after losing his starting position to newly signed Emiliano Martinez. The 28-year-old Spaniard saw his status at Stamford Bridge shift following a series of errors.
Sanchez started in the 3-2 victory against Fulham, but a costly mistake at the near post raised concerns within the club. Consequently, Xabi Alonso's side secured Martinez from Aston Villa in a £7.5m deal just before the transfer deadline.
Martinez started against Brighton while Sanchez was dropped from the matchday squad entirely. BBC Sport understands that Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas, hold an option to buy the goalkeeper permanently at the end of the loan.
Chelsea also have young Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders among their squad options. Meanwhile, Como have additionally strengthened their team by signing Italy international Moise Kean on loan with an obligation to buy from Fiorentina.
