Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was taken to hospital for precautionary medical tests after sustaining a concussion during his side's 2-0 away win against Everton. Manager Xabi Alonso confirmed the incident occurred in the 68th minute when Martinez collided with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite while trying to claim a cross.
The collision caused an eight-minute stoppage before Martinez was replaced by Mike Penders, who made his Premier League debut for Chelsea and helped secure the clean sheet. Pedro Neto scored both goals to seal the important victory for Alonso's team at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Alonso stated after the match that although the Argentine goalkeeper left the stadium conscious, the club must wait for further medical results. This development creates uncertainty regarding Martinez's availability for Chelsea's upcoming fixtures against Tottenham, Manchester United, and Liverpool.
The victory marked Chelsea's first Premier League clean sheet in nine months, addressing recent defensive concerns and a difficult historical record in northern away matches. The team displayed strong defensive organization, limiting Everton to just six shots and securing a much-needed morale boost.
