Manchester City's proposed £80m move for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo is close to collapsing. City had opened talks with Liverpool over a deal for the Netherlands international.
Liverpool signed Bradley Barcola from Paris St-Germain for up to £123m on Monday, but wanted another attacker if Gakpo left. The club targeted Yankuba Minteh and Ismaila Sarr, but valuations proved problematic.
Liverpool are now expected to keep the 27-year-old Gakpo unless they revive a deal for a new winger before Tuesday's deadline. City, following this development, could pivot toward Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye.
Ndiaye, 26, was expected to join Tottenham, but City's ongoing interest means the Etihad club could now progress with a potential move for the Senegal international.
