Summer spending is close to breaking records, with potential new highs expected on Transfer Deadline Day. Premier League and EFL clubs have until 23:00 BST on Tuesday, 1 September to finalise their squad moves.
Deadlines vary across other competitions, with the Scottish Premiership and Women's Super League closing on Thursday, 3 September. FIFA rules stipulate that a transfer window cannot exceed 16 weeks in any calendar year.
During the final two hours of the window, Premier League clubs can use a deal sheet to confirm agreements and secure extra time to submit necessary documentation before the strict deadline.
Free agents can be signed after the window closes, though they cannot play immediately unless there is space in the 25-man squad. Clubs must manage senior player numbers carefully, as oversized squads have previously attracted scrutiny.
