Martinez completes Chelsea move in record Villa deal

Chelsea have completed the signing of Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa on a three-year contract for a fee of 7.5 million pounds. The 33-year-old World Cup winner moves to Stamford Bridge following a successful spell at Villa.

Martinez, who previously played for Arsenal, made 256 appearances for Villa after joining them in 2020 and helped the club secure the Europa League last season. He expressed immense delight at joining a club known for winning titles.

This transfer represents the eighth deal between Chelsea and Aston Villa in the past four years, setting a joint-record for player movement between any two Premier League clubs during that timeframe. The relationship has seen significant financial exchanges since 2022.

While the high volume of business has drawn questions from rival Premier League executives regarding financial regulations, sources emphasize that neither club has broken any rules.
