Konsa set for Arsenal medical before £50m-plus move

Aston Villa centre-back Ezri Konsa will have a medical with Arsenal on Thursday after the clubs reached an agreement on Wednesday following weeks of negotiations. The 28-year-old England international has been given permission to travel to north London for the Emirates Stadium move.

Konsa made 48 appearances in all competitions last term, helping Unai Emery's side win the Europa League and finish fourth in the Premier League. He also played in every game of England's World Cup run as the Three Lions finished third, earning a four-week break from Emery.

Aston Villa has been forced into a major summer squad overhaul to comply with UEFA and Premier League financial rules. Following the record £117m sale of Morgan Rogers to Chelsea and Youri Tielemans' move to Manchester United, goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is also expected to leave.

Manager Unai Emery previously explained the absence of Konsa, Martinez and Ollie Watkins from pre-season matches, stating they would join the squad later. Villa now face a critical two weeks before the transfer window closes and their season opener against Brighton.
