Is Barry emerging as frontman Everton can finally count on?

With under 15 minutes remaining in Everton's Premier League opening-game win against Crystal Palace, match-winner Thierno Barry left the pitch to a warm ovation from the home supporters. The 23-year-old Frenchman had earlier connected with Iliman Ndiaye's cross in the second half to double Everton's lead and secure a 2-0 victory at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

This performance marked a stark contrast to his struggles last year when he endured a 14-game goal drought following a £27m arrival from Villarreal. Despite a slow start and an 18-game stretch with only one league goal, Barry turned his debut campaign around in January, finishing the season with eight goals in 38 Premier League appearances.

Everton manager David Moyes praised the striker's crucial header and positioning after the match while noting areas for improvement. Moyes stated that he needs Barry's overall build-up play to be better and expects him to retain the ball more effectively so the team can play into him more often.

When Barry joined Everton last summer amid financial constraints and a history of relegation battles, the club knew his development would take time. Following a year of adaptation, the young forward now appears ready to establish himself as the team's main attacking focal point.
