Aston Villa have completed the signing of 31-year-old Germany international Leon Goretzka. The midfielder became a free agent after leaving Bayern Munich this summer following the expiration of his contract.
Goretzka expressed his excitement about joining the Premier League club, stating he had a great feeling from his initial conversations with the coach and wants to bring his extensive experience to help the team achieve their goals.
The move provides a much-needed boost to Villa's midfield options, especially with Amadou Onana sidelined until next year due to a knee injury. Villa also lost several key players this summer, including Ezri Konsa to Arsenal and Morgan Rogers to Chelsea.
During his eight-year spell at Bayern, Goretzka made 312 appearances, scored 51 goals, and won seven league titles alongside the 2020 Champions League, though his playing time decreased in recent seasons under Vincent Kompany.
